Meet Alterra Mountain Company

Alterra Mountain Company is a leading operator and developer of ski destinations in North America. The company also owns resorts that are open all year, operates the biggest heli-skiing business in the world, and provides the Ikon Pass — a premier ski and snowboard pass for access to over 50 famous ski destinations globally. With a focus on innovation, Alterra invests in modernizing its resorts, improving guest experiences, and expanding year-round activities.

Finding the Right DAM

With a focus on innovation and rapid scale, Alterra needed a digital asset management platform (DAM) that was capable of keeping up with this and fit its business needs. At the time of migration, they owned 17 different resorts, each with its own needs for unique digital assets.

Unsurprisingly, Alterra needed a strong Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution, and their current DAM provider wasn’t cutting it. Alterra did not have their access, organization, or scaling needs met, leading them to search for a new solution. They also faced several other issues such as:

  • Excessive downtime
  • Time-consuming processes for users
  • Poor User Interface (UI)
  • Inefficient search functionality, requiring users to search by resort and scroll through results
  • Poor Sitecore integration

Implementing the DAM That Met Alterra’s Needs

We were able to take a look at their current setup and help them make the move to Sitecore Content Hub, a DAM that did fit all of their needs. With Content Hub, we were able to provide Alterra with the ability to store content by each one of their resorts, allowing for a highly organized structure for the assets needed. We also set access permissions for users.

Fishtank set up user groups that allowed them to see what was relevant to them, such as being a reader, creator, or approver; implementing this system of resort organization and user access management allowed for sharper execution. With 17 different resorts, it can be easy to trip up and change the wrong thing but after our changes, the users could now quickly and autonomously work on their specific resort without the fear of interfering with another resort, creating more efficient workflows and providing better usability for all.

Sitecore Content Hub also met Alterra's needs for further scaling support. Our configuration efforts empower Alterra’s diverse content teams with the ability to take control of the asset management cycle.
